The Zero Tolerance 0640 is a collaboration with knife maker Ernest Emerson. It features a two-tone CPM-20CV stainless steel blade with satin grinds and stonewashed flats. The handle is comprised of green and black carbon fiber overlays with titanium scales. An ambidextrous thumb disk facilitates opening the blade, while phosphor bronze washers allow it to glide open easily. A tip-up, reversible pocket clip ensures that this stellar knife is readily available whenever you need it.

  • CPM-20CV stainless steel offers the best in class edge retention and corrosion resistance.
  • Carbon fiber overlays and a titanium handle offer both strength and class.
  • Reversible pocket clip for easy carry for both left and right handers.

Customer Reviews

what i wanted a sebenza to be.
Justin p. on Sep 6, 2019

I initially went the sebenza 21 route but just was not happy with it. I ended up trading a friend for the 0640. I had been wanting it since it was announced. It is what I wanted the sebenza to be which was a great knife just not for me. The 0640 is so smooth and I love the CF overlay, similar to the spyderco GB 1&2 but better. I try and rotate my carry but the 0640 is almost always in my pocket. I did take a jewelers file to the thumb disk and deepen the grooves to create more traction because it was a little too smooth. It made the action even better as I don't have to push as hard on it anymore.

The poor mans sebenza
Justin G. on Sep 5, 2019

I say that because the blade shape minus the swedge reminds me very much of the sebenza. Its very smooth and well built... Once you change the scales and pocket clip it takes it from being a great knife to an excellent and one of my favorites.

Surprisingly awesome!
Patrick K. on Jan 16, 2019

It’s great to have a ZT framelock that’s not a flipper, and a Emerson design without a wave feature. The bronze washers are just as slick as bearings, and the steel lockbar insert won’t wear down like a standard Emerson Ti liner lock. Thumb disks aren’t my favorite, but the blade still deploys fast, detent could be a little lighter though, being a non-flipper. All in all, this knife is surprisingly awesome, just buy it...

Another great ZT
Darren R. on Dec 8, 2018

While I am admittedly a big ZT fan in general, I really like their Emerson collaborations a lot. Compared to the others (0620 and 0630), this one is much more streamlined which is nice for EDC use. Materials and fit and finish are great, and the carbon fiber looks very nice while providing a good grip along with the aggressive jimping. The only issues I have are fairly minor and involve the handle not quite fitting my hand as well as others and the lack of any wave feature (which I feel is almost a requirement for any Emerson knife).

almost perfect
Adam W. on Aug 10, 2020

I love both of these companies, and the best parts of the design come through almost perfectly. the almost custom-level quality of ZT, and the perfectly refined designs of Emerson. only one problem, no wave opener. just add it, the only reason why I think that they didn't is because they couldn't get the patents, but Emerson is on the design, and Cold Steel already has a patent-safe variant. that, or they didnt want it to feel too emerson-like, but an emerson's an emerson, and I think it's stupid to make an emerson less emerson-like.

Great Platform
Nicholas S. on Apr 9, 2021

I’ve put Sabenza money into my 0640 and finally have the knife I wanted and think ZT should’ve built in the first place. The stock scales are a... questionable choice, so I swapped them out for black micarta ones. The pocket clip was a fumble from a usability standpoint, so I swapped in a black cerakote loop-over, deep carry clip. The thumb disk was okay but since I was already modding, I swapped in an oversized zirconium disk. Now, the look of the knife matches its impressive engineering. It’s AWESOME! Smooth action. Bulletproof construction that really projects a feeling of solidity. Great action. Surprisingly slicey given thick stock. My modded 0640 is destined to become my go-to heavy duty folder.

One mandatory adjustment.

Knife is amazing. Most reliable in my collection for hard use. Do yourself a favor and swap the pocket clip out for any other option.

ZT 0640
david f. on Sep 11, 2019

This is my first ZT just FYI and they are overbuilt as advertised a well built knife with smooth action solid feel and nice design. Knife came sharp, but not razor sharp like other knives I own and due to the blade design the not best for cutting boxes even though it does this ok, more of a tactical design and blade shape which is fine by me. The negatives which others have mentioned are true the pocket clip that comes with is garbage and ZT does not send you free clips to replace of course neither does benchmade anymore, but they do for $5 so that isn't bad. Not sure ZT ever did like a youtuber said, they seemed shocked that I asked. One of the things that drew me to the knife was the scales everyone seemed to hate because I like green, however mine up close looks like a mustard color which was not appealing, but not horrible either. Mine also came with scratches on the carbon fiber by the clip and box that could fit 10 of these knives in which was weird again not a big deal just letting you all know. Overall I like this knife, but it was pricey and needs a few minor fixes depending on your tastes and preferences.

Reality check
David K. on Apr 8, 2019

This knife had a lot going for it (or so I thought) which is why I purchased it. The overall quality of the product is beautiful. But the detent was so strong that it was literally tearing open my skin. That's unacceptable. No knife at this price should do that. It should be silky smooth out of the box. When bearing down on the knife the lockbar really presses uncomfortably into your hand. There were a few sharp edges as well. I wound up returning it. At least ZT seems to have improved their carbon fiber though, that had a nice texture.
