Star Wars Knives – Real Knives for Real Places

Allow me to ruin your childhood, your parents’ childhood, and (man, I’m getting old) maybe even your grandparents’ childhood real quick: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… was actually just Earth in the 70s. But as harsh a reality as that is, I have good news: Most Star Wars "planets" – the forests of Endor, the deserts of Tatooine, etc. – are real places you can visit without ever leaving Earth. And you absolutely should! I’ve been to a few, and they’re stunning. There’s just one problem: We haven’t figured out lightsabers yet, so we’re stuck with knives. And if you’re planning a Star Wars pilgrimage, you’re going to want one! So today, I’ll show you some of the greatest Star Wars "planets" on Earth (or the closest thing to them), and what Star Wars knives you should bring to each! Let’s do it!

In This Article:

Tatooine – Boker Kalashnikov Desert Warrior

The desert planet Tatooine was filmed at several deserts around the world, but the most famous scene there is at the Sarlacc pit, represented by the Imperial Sand Dunes in California. In real life they’re a popular destination for off-road powersports. If you plan a visit, the Desert Warrior Kalashnikov will blend in nicely with the surroundings and provide you quick and easy cutting power thanks to the automatic action. But do try to keep sand out of the pivot. It’s course and rough and irritating and gets everywhere.

Endor – Fallkniven A1X

The forest moon Endor was filmed in the Redwood forests of northern California. The area gets a lot of rainfall and mild seasons, which lets the trees get truly enormous. If you’re a camper or mountain biker, it should definitely be on your bucket list. But when you go, you’ll want a solid fixed blade that’s tough enough for bushcraft and resisitant to the elements. With that demanding list of qualifications, it’s hard to beat the Fallkniven A1X with its polymer sheath, Thermorun handle, and tungsten carbide-coated blade. Just don’t try to build an Ewok-style tree city, the forest service would not like that.

Alderaan – CRKT Homefront

Alderaan didn’t get much screen time, but this peaceful planet was filmed in Grindelwald, Switzerland. Its natural beauty natural topography make it very dreamy. If you visit, you won’t need a whole lot of cutting power, so a simple folder like the CRKT Homefront will do. It also has the benefit of a tool-free takedown, so reassembly should be easy if the Death Star blows it up.

Coruscant – Pro-Tech Oligarch

The metropolis of Coruscant is the capital of the galaxy. Though a beautiful city, it was only ever made with special effects, so you can’t visit it. But you can visit one of the many giant cities on Earth. In fact, you probably live in or near one already. But like any city, Coruscant has a deep and active underground, and the Pro-Tech Oligarch might be the perfect knife to navigate it. It might be the most gangster knife in the world. It’s a bit spendy though, so don’t blow all your money on death sticks. Go home, and rethink your life.

Kamino – Spyderco Native Chief Salt

Kamino is an ocean planet, and (I’m sure sailors would destroy me for this) if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. But if you’re visiting any ocean, you should bring a knife that can cut fish, rope, and debris all while resisting corrosion. The Native Chief Salt is the perfect knife for such an adventure. And I’m sure that Mandalorian fellow they cloned a million times would also love its green handle. Or at least his "son" might…

Naboo – Karbon Mini Buck Horn

Naboo was filmed in the iconic alps and lakes of Northern Italy, one of the most beautiful places in the world. An adventure there requires a knife that can handle hard use in the mountains yet be refined enough to trim the foil on a bottle of wine. That’s where the Karbon Mini Buck Horn is perfect. Its full-metal build can take anything, but its classy design is right at home in the villa. If you need more cutting power, you can get the full-size Buck Horn for a similar effect. After all, there is always a bigger fish.

Mustafar – Benchmade Freek

While most of the epic battle on Mustafar was CGI, some of the shots were taken from Mount Etna, which just happened to be erupting while the crew was filming in Italy. Etna is a giant stratovolcano, and it’s the most active in all of Europe. So active, that at the time of writing (April 30, 2025) it is currently erupting and a new peak (I mean "High Ground") is being built at over 11,000 feet above sea level. If you plan to summit it, bring along the Benchmade Freek! Its CPM M4 blade can handle extremely high temperatures without losing temper, and its G-10 handle won’t weigh you down on the trek up. Or you could take Obi Wan’s advice and "Don’t try it!" There’s a pretty cool livestream you can watch instead, and summiting without a guide is really dangerous!

Hoth – ESEE Laser Strike

Hoth was filmed on Hardangerjøkulen (good luck pronouncing that), one of the largest glaciers in Norway. A hearty survival knife like the ESEE Laser Strike is just the thing to bring along, and not only because of its super Star-Wars-y name. It also hides a ferro rod for fire starting in the handle, and it blade is robust enough to cut open whatever large creature you find to use as a bushcraft sleeping bag!

Bespin – Microtech Combat Troodon Bounty Hunter

Bespin is a gas giant with a large city in the clouds. Unfortunately Earth is not a gas giant, but clouds are abundant, and you can look at them any time you like. But if you’re taking a trip to the clouds, bring a Microtech Combat Troodon. Its easy one-hand operation will come in handy if you’re parachuting, and its robust blade can handle anything inside an aircraft. And since you’re going Star Wars with it, you might as well get the Bounty Hunter. Boba Fett was only allowed to really shine in Bespin.

And if you’re a bit of a bounty hunter yourself, make sure you join Blade Club (it’s FREE) and get in on our Star Wars Day Bounty Hunt and win some free knives!
