Description:
The CRKT Squid XM is a Lucas Burnley design that is the bigger brother of the popular CRKT Squid Series. This knife is designed to be used. The blade has a long portion of straight edge that will be easy to sharpen and will chew through packaging like nothing else. Near the point of the blade, a small section of belly makes precise, slicing cuts with ease.

I have smaller hands, I've had the Holey Squid for a good bit and it's just a bit too small, so I decided to "pull the trigger" on this Squid XM and boy oh boy am I happy with it! .75" blade increase and only .5" handle increase compared to my old holey EDC AND it comes in the wonderfully sharp and durable d2 steel, which from my understanding is a great budget oriented steel. Love the g-10 and steel handle, provides an insane amount of grip. Excellent deal for $45 shipped, plus I even paid the extra $10 for an engraving, which didnt even slow down the shipping process! Seriously happy, can't recommend this knife enough.
the SM squid did not open well for me. This opens great with the assisted and thumb stud, the larger blade is perfect size. Sits well in pocket and hand, sharp out of the box.
I owned the original Squid, loved the wide blade profile, but it was a little bit of work to get it opened quickly with one hand, at least compared to a few of my other knives. I always thought assisted opening would be a great feature. Then CRKT did it, so I bought it. I'd never had any complaints, still don't, about the size. Then the XM came along. Still an extremely reasonable price, and I thought I'd give it a try. The extra blade mass seems to open just slightly slower than the shorter lighter models, but it's still handy. I've always been impressed with CRKT customer service, have carried various M16 models for years, but this has been my new favorite. Even several months in, the honeymoon is not over. While they've got some new cool stuff, I don't see anything likely to replace my favorite anytime soon. You just can't go wrong with the Squid XM.
First off the size is a welcome plus for the little squids, I have average size hands and can get a full 4 finger grip The action is very similar to the assisted squids, slightly less punchy but very direct The blade came a hair off center loosend the pivot screw quarter turn fix that Pocket clip is well a clip, definitely not going to slide out of pocket The scale is kinda lacking feels little to thin ? Definitely the one draw back to the XM but I have a feeling after market will soon fix that. Lanyard loop is nicely positioned and adds a good look Blade lock up is tight and zero blade play Over all I'd give it a 9/10 New daily for sure
Great knife, especially for the money. The blade shape is VERY similar to the Kizer Drop Bear, but 1/4 the price. Very smooth assisted opening. Love the CRKT stonewash finish. My only 'complaint' is that I would have preferred all-steel scales. It doesn't look like there are currently aftermarket scales available (for the XM anyway), but I'll be keeping my eye open.
