Almost everything about this knife is good. The look of the carbon fiber is amazing, the edge comes already sharp and it as a great feel in hand. My only complain is the frame lock that is sometimes hard to close one-handed.

Bought this because of the ugraded steel. Great ergonomics for people working in the Vaseline factory.

My only gripe with it is it needs phosphor bronze washers instead of nylon.

Can't go wrong with this bad boy. Looks sweet, great ergos and won't break the bank all in a mini package. Highly recommend for a solid starter pocket knife.

I bought this version of the Pilar specifically because of the D2 blade, not because of the carbon fiber. I use my knives a lot for work--high end and budget--and I just didn't want to sharpen the 8Cr13MoV blade on the original every couple of days. That said, I bought a Flytanuium copper scale to replace the carbon fiber. Is the D2 worth the $20 extra? Yeah, I think so due to time saved on not sharpening every other day. The overall design is so ergonomic-friendly that it feels like a much bigger knife in hand. It cuts great and feels good for longer periods of use. A little polishing with a Dremel on the Teflon washers bumps up the action a lot. I love this knife. It's small enough to use in the lunchroom without being threatening to non-knife people, yet it can handle most everyday tasks just fine. It's a brute for its size. One star deducted because I feel CRKT should just offer D2 as THE budget level steel like pretty much so many other knife companies already do at the same price or less. I do recommend the Pilar in any version. It's solid.
Great EDC!

Love this little knife just one of many Jesper Voxnaes designs I can appreciate. Iím glad I picked up this specific model with the upgraded material D2 steel, Carbon Fiber handle. Great back up edc to complement your full size blade. If your into smaller knives this is the one for you I canít recommend it enough.

This knife is easily one of my favorite knife designs, and the carbon fiber/d2 upgrade really bring this out. The CF meshes great with the bead blast frame lock scale, which I honestly didn't expect. The CF also makes the knife much lighter than the normal Pilar, and gives you a much more comfortable grip. Even closed this knife looks fantastic, and it's my go to for gentleman's carry. That being said, it has quite a few issues. A per with a lot of CRKT knives, my Pilar came with some machining errors. There's a bad grind in the back of the knife across the lanyard hole corner of the spacer/CF/frame lock, and it's a bad eyesore when I remember it exists. The opening is quite stiff, but I could honestly fix it easily with some oil if I really cared enough. This pocket clip, despite matching the knife very well, is extremely tight for me and difficult to both get in my pocket and take out. Surprisingly mine had no blade centering or blade play issues though, and it came with a pretty nice blade grind. Overall this is still one of my favorite knives, but you should expect to find some minor but fixable issues in the production quality.
You will love it.

Snazzy little knife. Blade shape has a lot of aesthetic appeal and has a great edge.
Grip on the handle/choil makes this very stable and comfortable even in larger hands. Finish on the frame lock is a bit sharp on your thumb due to the grooves. Not a huge deal either you get use to it or take a rasp/file and round them a bit.
Great knife for the women in your life!

As a woman, this knife fits my hand like it was made for me. The finger choil and ergos are perfect for my hand. I just love the feel and look of it. It fits in my coin pocket (it goes without saying that you could toss it in a purse.)

The CF makes it a nice weight, and I love the D2 steel. I think this would be a solid choice for any women in your life that you're trying to introduce to EDC.

Been wanting a Pilar for a while now and it doesn't disappoint. The CF is nice but the fact that the blade is D2 is really nice. I can get a good four finger grip with the finger choil and it feels really comfortable in the hand. Overall really impressed with the knife.

I love the design. Be warned it is TINY. Smaller than I expected. But the design makes up for that, despite its tiny overall size it is still very comfortable in my large hands and I easily get all four fingers on it. Love the blade shape and the control you have over the blade. Let me be clear: this knife is absolutely outstanding for whittling type activities. Its hard to think of a knife that is more well designed for that purpose.

Now, there are some quality issues with this knife but for the money you can't really expect more. As an example there was some really ugly machining done around the edges of the frame lock. Bad enough that I had to file them down. The action is also a little stiff and the small size makes it difficult to open this knife with one hand.

But overall I'm very happy with it.

Love the design, love the steel, love the handle.
But after all these wonderfull (ahum ahum, necessary) upgrades, that finally bring out the gloriousness in Jesper's design, why not go all the way and get phosphor bronze washers.....

I'm going to get some after market one, when I get the chance. But it feels like they were hitting a homerun, only to just barely not.
I would not buy one again

I like the size and blade shape is excellent. However, its stiff, and not extra easy to open. Its clip is really tight, like rip your jeans tight. All and all there is nothing really wrong with the knife, but nothing awesome either. Save your money.

The washers are two different sizes, but that doesnít bother me. If I was worried about aesthetics, I would have bought a higher end, more expensive knife.

What does bother me....

EDIT: After a few days of having my thumb accosted while disengaging the frame lock, I disassembled the knife and filed all the sharp edges on the inner side of the metal scale. I also removed the manufacturing edges that were like razor blades. Very happy now.

Another Blade HQ exclusive CRKT Pilar that I've received that is of good quality. IMHO the satin finish of the carbon fiber is perfect. Still waiting for that Micarta version next time... ;-)
