The CRKT Siwi, a collaborative design from Darrin Sirois and Chris Williams, is a compact tactical fixed blade in a league all its own. This mission-ready knife sports a durable SK5 steel blade with a resistant black powder coat, and comes outfitted with textured G-10 scales. A generous choil and subtle jimping on the spine offer heightened blade control and a solid grip in the hand. The Siwi is an exceptional knife that's built to last.
Features:So this is a beefy knife, yet surprisingly compact. I horizontal carry this knife in the woods and rotate with my Izula. It's not THAT much bigger than the Izula. I was worried the grip would be too chunky, but is very ergonomic and comfortable. The thick blade and slightly curved spine lend this knife to heavy cutting tasks. It shipped to me razor sharp, touching up the blade was not required. I tend to baby my knives so I can't give a full durability breakdown, but for a general purpose hunting/camping knife I believe this will work perfectly for me. It's not exactly discreet enough, even horizontal, to EDC around town, perhaps under a jacket. Anywhere outdoors it blends in well. I horizontally carry, appendix, and the tech lock can be easy to accidentally bump sitting down and standing up, so I've had to watch that. Otherwise, retention of the lock and sheath are good. Quite pleased with purchase.
This is a knife that won't break, the incredibly thick sk5 gives it insane durability and some nice edge retention too. on top of that the G-10 handle feels like it just won't budge, I initially feared the handle style would be abit uncomfortable, but it fits like a glove. And the polymer sheath makes it decent to keep some oil on your edge too, so you're blade doesn't get rusty which is really the only weakness sk5 has as far as I know.
Stands up to Minnesota standards in regards to camping, EDC, trail hiking and even taking down a cardboard box.
If you are a fan of the Schrade F16, or any beefy-handled EDC fixed blade, you'll love this one. Perfect ergos, even for med-large hands.
The entire package fits for a solid EDC fixed blade except for the blade thickness. The stock is excessively thick, and would have required a full re-grind for me to consider it usable. If you need something you can hammer through a stump without harming the edge, this is the ticket. If you need something for more pedestrian use, look elsewhere.
