The Cold Steel Tanto Spike has been re-engineered for improved performance. It features a textured Griv-Ex handle that provides a safe stop for your index finger and thumb. The blade is a 4116 stainless steel Tanto style blade with a satin finish and a sharp, durable edge. Comes with an all-new Secure-Ex sheath that is Tek-Lok¢ compatible and black bead lanyard chain.
Blade steel is "German 4116", at least on my Tanto version it is. It's written on the backside of the blade. Sheath could fit a tad better to have it silent, the knife is great though. Very well balanced knife, so you can whirl it around and change grips with nimble ease! Balance is right behind "the hilt", as it should be (?)! Maybe the sheath fits better on the other versions that are not American Tanto? Looks like there is only one sheath for all the offered blade styles, that's probably why mine rattles a little bit. It's no biggie for me though. Very secure sheath too! I think the sheath was made to fit the regular drop point version the best, since that's the shape we can see on the sheath of every blade style. Might get the Bowie version or the Drop-Point version next and check how the sheath fits on those.
The tanto spike is a fixed blade EDC that I highly recommend. I have carried it more than any other knife I own. for the size and weight, it became a knife to carry while exercising or at the pool or any other activity where weight and size were the main factors for EDC as usual Cold Steel provided a blade razor-sharp out of the box. One wish was knife could be scout carried from the manufacturer, but that is a personal wish. Please buy there are many different blade styles to chose from so you won't be disappointed.
