Last summer I worked a forestry internship that had us camping for a week at a time for 8 weeks. This knife was invaluable for the completion of chores around camp and as a part time bush whacker. 1095, although not stainless, is a fantastic hard use steel. It keeps its edge well and stands up mightily to abuse. I’ve batoned wood, chopped up kindling, hacked through underbrush, carved stakes and, in a pinch, prepared food with this knife. My only complaint about this knife are that the micarta scales are not contoured, they are flat. This creates some pretty harsh hotspots when hacking through stuff and doing other hard use tasks. My second issue is the sheath. The plastic material clatters loudly and the holes do not quite fit a large tec-lock. This is one of the best large fixed blades I have ever used, and will hold its place as a mainstay in my pack. If you want one of the best large fixed blade knives on the market, buy this knife.
