The Gator Machete Jr from Gerber is built just as tough as the Gator Machete, just shorter and more packable. The blade features high carbon steel, a plain edge, and a double saw tooth spine. The rough saw is designed for cutting through branches, limbs and small trees. This full tang blade features a rubberized Gator Grip handle for superior grip and comfort. For back-country travel, when every bit of weight is accounted for the Gator Jr is the right machete.
Includes ballistic nylon sheath.
I bought this mini machete for clearing trails during pre-season scouting for the deer hunt. It has held up to a ton of abuse. It holds an edge well, and I've cut through 1 inch limbs with just a couple of swings.
The steel used in this blade is surprisingly soft. The first time I used this thing, it was to try and take down a live pine branch that was hanging over the trail. Only about 1 1/2 inch thick. The blade got good and firmly wedged in with the first stroke, and when I pried it out, the edge had been visibly bent. It eventually made it through, but by the time the task was done this machete had taken a terrible beating. Wouldn't recommend to anyone if it can't even handle a branch of pine.
