I like to carry both a fixed blade and a folder when backpacking, and this will be my go-to folder for the foreseeable future. It's very lightweight but also very strong from my experience, and sharp straight out of the box. It does seem more prone to bring affected by dirt, lint, etc due to how thin it is and the back being closed off, but it hasn't gotten to the point of being an issue for me yet. It is also maybe the best bang for your buck of any knife out there. The Ontario Rat 1 and 2 are the only outdoor folders I can think of that are relatively close in terms of value, and the Rat 1 is probably my favorite of the three for EDC, but it is significantly heavier, making it not as good for backpacking, and the blade of the Rat 2 is too thin for my liking and seems notably less durable. I do wish the blade was a little longer, and it's probably the least attractive knife I own if I'm being honest, but, as just a lightweight beater knife to use in the backwoods, I can't imagine anything beating it.
I've had one of these in my toolbox and hiking kit for years. Bought 5 more they are so sweet. Really sturdy but super light. Planning to give some as gifts and add to tool bags in cars. Highly recommend.
I've gotta say this knife is a great one for the price. Very sturdy. Good steel, just strop it for a few minutes every once in a while and keeps it's razor edge.
Solid value from Ka-Bar. This knife might blow away if left on its own -- it's that lightweight! At $20 this knife has done well more than what a small utility folder should be capable of. Removed the uni-directional thumbstud and replaced with a zip tie for a makeshift wave feature. This blade breaks in nicely; great series from Ka-Bar.
This knife is so awesome, especially for the price point. The olive drab color is better than I have ever seen on any knife and I love the black blade too. One thing I have noticed is that under normal use the black coating on the blade will start to chip and wear off. I dont mind it and think it looks kind of cool but some people might not like it. I love the size of the knife, it is perfect for everything i would use it for. It would even be great as a lightweight hunting or backpacking blade too!
I received this knife in the tan as a groomsman's gift well over 18 months ago and I carry it every day. When I found it they had it in green I ordered it right away. Shipping was fast.
Lightweight, sturdy, and has a great pocket clip. It's not to stiff, but still has good retention. The blade came pretty sharp. I don't think you'll find better for the price. At least on the knife I received, the Foliage Green is more like dark grey with maybe a hint of green. I actually do like the color, it just looks nothing like the color pictured.
the price is right. steel is not great. not to excited about it being made overseas. would pay more for better steel and manufacturing in a western country. other than that I've carried this knife on and off for years and use it primarily as a jobsite knife and it's handled everything I've thrown at it from cutting drywall to cutting out old carpet and much more. never worried about carrying this little beast.
Given the price it's not surprising this knife looks cheap. The mega stiff action keeps me from carrying this knife at all. I don't mind maintenance on knives but I don't like having to do it right out of the box. Again though with the price... Not overly surprising that it's necessary.
