Description:
The Kershaw Strata XL is a huge flipper knife inspired by the Spanish Navaja, which was used as a self-defense tool among the Spanish working class many years ago. Kershaw put a modern flare on the classic design, employing tougher materials, smoother mechanisms, and tighter tolerances. The Strata will function as its predecessors did, for self defense, or as a large, stylish cutting tool for everyday tasks.
The Kershaw Strata is available in either standard or XL sizes.
I was happy-- thin profile razor sharp out the box and is big for Kershaw. Hopefully Kershaw will make bigger knives as well in the future. Good knife for the money, thin profile, extremely light. Hopefully they will make a USA version of this knife like a premium version
I like this knife, as it's light (for the size) and slicy! I'm kind of a fidgety guy and the walk & talk of this knife is pleasing to me. As for uses, definitely a great food processor at a campsite or kitchen! I'm not sure I'd like to protect myself with it, It's appearence would likely deescalate most encounters. It fits nicely into my front pocket and the clip is excellent. One thought, it's thin, The handle is nearly uncomfortable. I'm not calling it a con because I figured it would be thin from the pictures and it's not bad, just could be a little thicker imo.
I won't be pulled into the "exclusive" b.s. again from BHQ. I paid more for this on an exclusive than I could have paid the exact same day it went public on multiple other vendor's websites. $5 up front to "reserve it" and then another $79 upon shipping. It's already for sale for $74 and below total out the door at multiple places.... As to the knife itself, it's really nice, a bit stiff initially, but has started to loosen up after playing with it a bit. The looks are great in person, the colors are really nice. The blade was reasonably sharp, but needed a touch up and the pocket clip is great in that the knife even at it's 5.5" closed length fully disappears in your front jeans pocket. After getting it crazy sharp, it's now part of my EDC rotation. I would buy it again, but only after it's been out a while and drops further in price.
