The Smith & Wesson M&P OTF offers spring assisted single-action deployment with a press of the thumb slide. It has a locking feature at the top of the handle releases the blade for manual closing. Once open, this pocket knife becomes a capable EDC/tactical cutting tool, and because of its out-the-front nature, it offers a double-edge blade. As an added perk, launching that assisted mechanism is a ton of fun! If you think it's time to spice-up your collection, consider an M&P OTF!
Smith & Wesson is known for making guns, but they make a bunch of rad knives, too!
I bought this knife with low expectations but I am very impressed with the quality. I have been carrying it daily for about a month and I have fired the blade hundreds of times with absolutely zero performance issues. The blade came decently sharp and symmetrical out of the box and for the money it's more than satisfactory. The one weak point I was worried about was the pocket clip which started to loosen and wiggle after about a week. I was able to take the knife apart (likely not recommended) and found that the pocket clip is held in with two small screws fastened from the inside, however a dab of blue Loctite fixed the issue and it's held firm since. This knife is great quality and well worth it for the price point. I highly recommend this knife for anyone who wants a entry level OTF without breaking the bank.
Absolutely no play on the blade itself. Handle is built great at that price point. Feels very durable like it could take a beating and still get the job done, just a great knife for a great price point
I've had a few OTF knives. This by far is the best. Almost no blade movement when open. That's new for me, and it has the sharpest point of any knife i have ever owned. For the money this is a GREAT buy. Would be an awesome gift for anyone interested in a daily user.
I work in construction, and have been carrying this knife for months now. Still very solid, no blade play. Very solid lockup. A little wear showing since I also carry a large ring of keys in the same pocket, but other than that, still just as solid as new. Holds a good edge also. Very happy with it.
At first I did not like the knife all that well. But after time once you realizes that you can open it retract it and lock it with one hand it grew on me. It locks up great with hardly no play. Now I am sure this is due to not having a auto retract button. It has seemed to be quite reliable. I have opened the blade well over a hundred times with no issues. For the price it is a good choice for someone on a budget.
Don't get me wrong I love the knife it's great and has some solid action. But.... it is a $44 knife after all and has its flaws. Now I just got the knife and out of the box, the action itself is kinda sticky and so is the release button. After a little bit of lube, it actually runs kinda smooth. Note that recharging this knife isn't as easy as it looks, it does take a bit of pullback to get it back into the ready position. It's very sharp out of the box which I do appreciate. If you are a bigger guy like myself you will notice that while sitting down, the glass breaker does dig into your stomach a little if you are doing appendix carry as I do. Overall a great knife that I will start to use in my edc.
This is a budget knife that has stayed sharp and works well. Purchased in September and recently had to go in a lubricate the mechanism. Now its smoother than before. This will hold me over until I decide to drop some cash on a microtech or bench made otf knife. Love the spear point tip.
great for novelty and very light use, I wore it while playing paintball and despite having the safety on it would open while in full sprint, Luckily thick pants left me with a very small wound...twice.... I'm not one to leave a bad review for fun, but I did want to point this out for anyone thinking it could handle more than mild abuse.
Im a huge S&W fan and I thought I would absolutely love this knife but I didn't. It's built solid but imo the buttons and placement of the buttons is kinda hokey. I feel like they try and give it handgun features which make it feel cheap. I wish they just made a knife the way S&W would make a knife. Overall it was well worth the price tag I just didn't love it like I thought I would.
I owned this knife for a year. I really wanted to like it but it was too bulky for what it was. Heavy overall and the unlocking lever and retracting lever was not ideal for me. I wouldn't recommend it.
This thing has a weak lock, will come open in your pocket and the main spring broke after a couple months of normal use and a few stab tests
This knife is sharp! safety disengaged and release enabled in 2 pairs of my cargo shorts and my military uniform trousers! not safe!!!!
This is a poorly made knife. I know that it was inexpensive for an OTF knife but the blade when open wobbles excessively. There is actually about 1/4" of blade wobble when open. I should have gone with a different manufacturer that makes one in this price range.
