If you like the Ontario RAT Model 1, but want something a little less bulky, then you'll love the Model 2. The RAT Model II is based on the popular Model I, it's smaller, but retains the same great shape and performance of the original. This knife is designed for comfort and performance with an index finger groove on the handle to keep your hand where it should be and jimping on the spine of the blade for controlled cutting. The handle features textured black nylon 6 scales with an open-built steel linerlock frame. The AUS-8 stainless steel drop point blade has a black finish and a plain cutting edge. The RAT Model 2 is fully ambidextrous with dual thumb studs and a 4-way reversible pocket clip.

The king of budget knives
Austin P.
The Ontario Rat 2 is hands down the best budget knife on the market. I have had mine for 2 years now and have abused it heavily. You will not find a more sturdier knife of the market for anywhere near the price of The Rat 2.

.extremely durable knife

.great edc for everyday tasks

.can be heavily abused while maintaining
its function

.You will not find a better knife for anywhere near the price as this is the king of budget knives

.The coating is not durable and easily wears

.I have had to sharpen the blade a few times (Aus-8 is a good steel for an economic knife but it doesn't compare to the more expensive/ high carbon steels)

In conclusion, if you are looking for a cheap EDC knife that you can abuse without worrying this is by far the best choice for your money.

Most carried knife

Love this. Smooth opening knife. Great size and shape makes it very easy to carry. Small knife but not dainty. This is very useful for many functions. Only negative would be the black blade coating is not very durable. Shows signs of wear afer light use. Not a big deal for me personally.
Best in class budget

The Rat 2 is an awesome knife for the money, and one of my favorites. Comes sharp right out of the box and the action is buttery smooth. Aus 8 holds an edge decently, but nothing to write home about. For 30 bucks though, what more could you want? Lightweight but not comically light, decent size even for larger hands, rides good in the pocket. I honestly have no gripes about this blade besides the black coating that scratches off over time. A knife is a tool, use it as such and don't worry about it being too pretty! This is a great edc knife and I would recommend it without a doubt.
Love it

Knife is excellent for what you're paying. Fits my large slim hands well. Has a really good detent that makes for a satisfying snappy action. Good useable blade shape. Aus-8 is kind of disappointing (wish they'd release a D2 version). Makes a great beater knife. Black coating is basically just painted on and scratches off with use, so I wish I'd gotten the satin version instead.
Love this Knife

I love this knife more than any of my other knives, even though the black paint scratches off, but I love it anyway.
All the fixings!

Amazing folder,.....shaving sharp OTB, fluid no-nonsense action, super high value!

Only considerations to be mindful of is the finish will come off and the blade wasn't centered upon receipt.

Still worth the 5-stars!
great EDC and camp knife!

i've done just about everything with this knife. doesn't matter what role you want this little folder to play (EDC, camp, fishing, ect), this is one of the best knives you could carry and use! i've used this little knife for just about everything and every time it was being used it performed flawlessly. i was surprised how well it cut through wood and joints after the abuse i had put it through. and did i mention this is light as a feather!! there were times when i just started carrying this folder where i forgot i ever had a knife in my pocket. the only down side to this knife is the paint job. most of those crappy knives you'd see in gas stations are likely to have a better finish than this rat 2. side note: the finish did bother me, so i stripped the paint and oiled up the knife once or twice a month (way more than i really needed to)
