The Pro-Tech Tactical Response 5 (TR-5) is one Pro-Tech's most popular models—and for good reason! It offers a solid four-finger grip with finger grooves that enhance comfort and grip security during use, and its blade flips out with Pro-Tech's renowned authoritative automatic action. It's made in the USA from high-functioning materials to an exacting standard. If you're looking to supplement your kit with an automatic knife, it's hard to recommend one higher than the TR-5.

This is an awesome edc auto knife. The blade shape which I am a big fan of is an all purpose design. The blade steel CPM-S35VN holds its edge far longer than CPM-154. The automatic action is flawless with the blade opening quickly without any recoil and the overall size is just right for edc. When I think I’m going to need a larger blade I take my TR-4. Now for slight cons. The black coating is not as smooth as a plain blade so it drags a bit cutting cardboard. However I’m sure it will smooth out with use. Also the activation button initially feels like dragging a brick over gravel, rough and bumpy. ( I have found this to be true of all new Pro tech autos. I have three.) BUT it is smoothing out with use. ( If you push the buttons quick you don’t feeling anything.) So if you are thinking about it do you won’t regret it. 8 months later it is even better. The button has smoothed out tremendously as has the blade. Also I can get it razor sharp with just a ceramic rod. My arms can attest to that as I have bald patches where I have tested the edge. It is my favorite and I feel naked if I don’t have it with me.
I love this knife. It is a little smaller than I was expecting. I have a Newport and it feels very similar in hand. I love the deep carry pocket clip and of course the legendary Protech SNAP when you push the button. Home run.
I love the size & feel of this knife in my hand. Perfect in every way! The quality and materials are top of the line. This knife will last a lifetime. When they make the TR4 in S35VN, I'll be getting one of those too. Buy one today. You won't be disappointed.
This knife is very well made. It's definitely ready for a hard use. The blade is solid, sharp and straight. The handle is very sturdy. You can't go wrong with a Protech knife
This was my first ProTech Auto and I am now a true believer. The Pro-Tech Auto 5 is smaller than I expected with a smaller blade profile compared to 3.25 Blades from Benchmade or Spyderco, but hey it's a great EDC size. The knife opens with authority, and sharp as anything right out of the box! Historically I usually only buy Benchmade, Spyderco and Zero Tolerance....now ProTech has been added to that list. Check this blade out, you will not be disappointed!!
I am very impressed with this my first Protech knife. The action is legendary for a reason; certainly a great snap with no blade play or bounce. The lockup is flawless, the blade perfectly centered, and it oozes quality. The TR-5 feels like it was made for my hand, the ergos are great; not only that but the weight is very reasonable. The only reason I am leaving a four star rating is that the blade wasn't quite as sharp as I was expecting. I have received much lesser knives that were sharper out of the box - not that this is dull by any means; it just wasn't shaving sharp.
