The SCHF43 Frontier fixed blade, AKA Jessica X, was designed by Chris Tanner of Preparedmind101. This versatile knife features an over-sized choil for added leverage during precise cuts, and an elongated 3-position handle to assist in tackling a variety of outdoor tasks.
Got mine yesterday, so far really enjoy it and those who have played with it along with myself want one as well. Great knife, shaved out of the box BUT out of the box, did the thumbnail test and sure enough there was a small "nick" if you will in the blade (actually 2, one right next to the other). Could feel them right off but only a strong light and with it reflecting back to my eyes could I see them. Figure it was one of those opps things and will "go away" after the first one or two sharperings with the stone. Yes I would indeed get another. Great job schrade.
Chopped down several tall cottonwoods, batonned extensively, trimmed and shaved various logs, all ok so far. Was not sharp out of the box, but she went right into use anyway. Will file and stone the blade soon. The weight of this over-sized knife offsets the dull out-of-the-box blade. It's totally a mauler. You can change your chopping leverage by moving the hand around inside the huge guard, and leather gloves will help protect your gripping hand. I haven't pried much yet, despite the 1/5 inch thick blade steel; don't intend to either because of the strange gamut of reviews on the Jessica X. Finally, the nylon sheath only gets an average grade. Overall then, I haven't been kind to her, but so far Jessica has withstood the abuse. Good price, too.
WOW !! I’ve been looking at videos of this knife and a ton of reviews. The good and the bad. When I opened the box I was blown away. It was much more impressive than any of the videos. Which makes it an even greater shame that the knife that I received is not the same as those depicted in the many field tests and at least for now discontinued. I hope Chis or someone brings it back. In the mean time I’ll treat mine gently.
