The SCHOTF3 Viper Out-the-Front Assisted Opening knife from Schrade features a double-edge blade with a bead blast finish. The handle is dark gray finished aluminum with a safety, pocket clip and glass breaker. To deploy the blade, simply push on the slider near the base of the handle to get the blade moving and the spring assist mechanism will take it the rest of the way. To retract the blade, release the lock and pull down on the slider to lock it back in place. It is assisted automatic deployment and manual retraction.
I have owned this knife for 6 years and have only had to take it apart once to clean it. It is reliable and my first otf and my first edc. Would absolutely recommend.
This knife overall is a pretty good knife. I wouldn’t say it’s meant for hard camp work or even opening boxes. It’s dagger blade hits at some self defense aspects. This knife is probably better at stabbing watermelons in your back yard rather then making fire wood. I think for the price the blade steel wasn’t up to par, good but not there yet. But besides that, the lock-up, and reliability is really good. I’ve never really had a problem with this knife, and after some practice this knife is a charm when ejecting the blade. And the toughness of this knife is definitely something you don’t see on some knives 2x the price. Definitely a recommend, for a self defense EDC.
Schrade usually makes good stuff, and the blade is solid. Problem is, the only way to open it is either two-handed, or in a reverse grip. The switch is on the bottom of the handle when the knife isn't deployed, so you have no leverage to open it with your thumb. Why anyone would want an automatic knife that's harder to deploy than almost any basic knife is beyond me. Schrade needs to step up its engineering
