Shomer-Tec Tomas Alas Escape Button
Ever watch a movie where the hero is tied up, hands bound behind their back, and think, “If only they had some clever little hidden blade…”? Sure, a James Bond-style laser watch would do the trick—but in the real world, something simpler, more discreet, and far more practical makes a lot more sense.
Enter the Shomer-Tec Escape Button.
Designed by Tomas Alas of Tactical Tavern (well-known on YouTube for his practical, no-nonsense approach to gear), the Escape Button is a brilliantly understated solution to a very real problem. At first glance, it’s just a standard 3/4" mil-spec plastic BDU button—nothing flashy, nothing suspicious. But hidden inside is a 7/16" fully serrated blade crafted from durable 1095 carbon steel.
This isn’t a gimmick—it’s a purpose-built escape and survival tool. The serrated edge is ideal for cutting through rope, tape, zip ties, and other common restraints, giving you a fighting chance when it matters most.
What makes the Escape Button especially clever is its deployment method. Instead of a traditional side nail nick, the blade features a subtle front-facing catch point. A quick pass of your fingernail along the button’s perimeter allows you to hook and deploy the blade with surprising ease—no awkward angles, no unnecessary fumbling.
Because it’s designed as a functional button, it can be sewn into a wide variety of garments or gear—shirts, pants, jackets, bags—anywhere a standard BDU button would go. It remains completely unassuming, blending seamlessly into your everyday carry without drawing attention.
