The Autonomy was developed to meet demanding mission requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard’s rescue swimmers. The SpyderEdge rescue-style blade is the first American-made knife to be ground from H-1 steel, a nitrogen based steel that is completely immune to saltwater corrosion. Its automatic opening is powered by a coil spring nested within a unique removable shroud that allows the spring to be serviced without disassembling the entire knife.

An oversized firing button enables quick indexing by tactile sense—even while wearing gloves or suffering diminished dexterity due to cold. The button passes through both stainless steel handle liners, stabilizing it and increasing the blade’s lock strength. The button’s spring is also integral to the stainless steel liner, providing increased tension and eliminating any cavities within the handle that could retain water. The knife’s open construction allows it to be easily cleaned and dried, making it the ideal tool for waterborne rescue operations.

This model features orange G-10 scales, a sliding safety lock, wire pocket clip, and a satin finished blade.

Working man's auto
Dan G. on Sep 2, 2016

I own many Spiderco knives but this is my first Spyderco auto. This is simply a great knife whether you are a first responder, work in the trades or just an average day shmuck like me. As with all Spyderco's the fit and finish is excellent and the blade is razor sharp out of the box. The ergonomics of this knife are amazing it just fits your hand perfectly. If you are looking for an EDC auto that can handle tough working conditions and won't break the bank, look no further. Throw in outstanding customer service from BHQ and you can't go wrong.

Working Man's Knife

Just got my Autonomy with the Orange G-10 and first impression is WOW! This knife is huge for a folder, which is what I need for work. The blade rockets out with authority, which impressed me considering how big it is. The serrations are exactly what you have come to expect from Spyderco-I turned a piece of paper into a pile of french fries with ease! I really dig the wire pocket clip too. If you work outside and need a knife that can handle demanding cutting tasks and withstand the elements, this knife might be for you!

Smooth action, fast, really well made. Really like the hand feel and the straight edge at the tip. Orange too!

Great Knife

I have purchased two of these over the years (One for me and a Second for my Dad). Overall, it’s a great blade. This Auto’s Action is extremely smooth and hits hard. Build quality and materials are second to non… That said, this is a “Tool” and the Blade Shape is less than ideal for an EDC. Also, the Blade Steel (As much as I love it) is fairly soft…. But I’m still looking forward to getting my Autonomy 2 (Whenever that finally ships!?)

Great LE EDC knife

Everything you’ve come to expect from Spyderco. Perfect duty knife that’s built like a tank. Built better than some autos I have at twice the price. Orange color awesome.

My grandma bought me This knife and I loved it easily the best knife I had owned. Sadly it was stolen from me. So I just ordered a new one can’t wait to break it in.

Has Potential
Thomas W. on Sep 1, 2017

I bought this knife for scuba diving and here are my thoughts. Very sharp knife out of the box, but I noticed a roll on the edge about 1/2 inch from the tip about 1/8th inch long. I decided that it wasn't a big enough deal to send it back for another one as it could easily be resharpened... I also have a complaint about the pocket clip not being secure. The screw holding it to the knife unscrewed itself on day 1 and the pocket clip fell off. Next thing I noticed is a significant amount of blade play, more than your average $150 dollar knife and I think this is due to the fact that the knife was not put together very tightly from the manufacturer. Now I have to buy a toolkit. I have had a couple of foreign manufactured Spyderco knifes and I thought the quality and build was exceptional so I was expecting better from an american made knife, oh well. On the plus side this knife has a ridiculous amount of spring tension and the g10 handles are great!
