This Caribbean model has a leaf-shaped blade with a plain cutting edge.
The Caribbean is a unique and stylish addition to Spyderco's Salt Series of knives. Its precision machined LC200N steel blade provides a resilient cutting edge and is completely rust proof. Vibrant black/yellow G-10 scales offer a non-slip grip with an intricate layered pattern. The Caribbean is equipped with the high-strength Compression Lock mechanism and a reversible titanium pocket clip for convenient and secure use.
Features:I waited a long time for this to be back in stock. After I got the Spidiechef I knew LC200N was going to be my preferred steel. I got tired of my older knives getting rust on them. This steel should last for generations to come. I was seriously considering the PM2 but when compared side by side, I took the Caribbean home instead. The blade thickness is the same, the action is the same, and the feel is very similar but at the end of the day, I wanted a bigger knife than the chef and I really wanted LC200N. I also like the grippy texture of the Caribbean handle over the PM2. All of the touchable edges of the blade have been milled as have all the edges of the scales. The blade was perfectly centered and the action has become stellar over the course of a few days of fidgeting in front of the TV. If the PM2 had LC200N steel I probably would have gotten it by being impatient but I was able to hold off until these came back in stock (about 7 months!). Thanks BladeHQ for the fast shipping and responding to my note on the order!
This is an awesome knife, the Taichung factory just put waaay too much loctite on the screws making the blade very difficult to service. And if you're using this in a dirty environment, you're going to want to clean it out on a frequent basis. The fit and finish are superb and the texturing on the scales makes it easy to hold on to. I really love that they went with a compression lock on this knife making it super easy to open and close one-handed.
Gave as a gift to a fishing buddy. He has really big hands and loves the handle on this. He was afraid to take it surfcasting, so I told him not to worry it has LC200N steel, he just looked at me and I knew he didn't have a clue what I was sayin. I told him wash it, keep it oiled after the beach... that 6mos. ago, no problems yet. He said its easy to keep sharp and that's saying a lot for him, I usually end up sharpening his knives! He hasn't broken it yet, which tells me its a well built knife, if he can't break it nobody can!
Can be used in the kitchen or outdoors. I use mine around the yard and on the boat. Don’t let the looks fool you. You’ll learn to appreciate it.
I was getting mugged, you see...so I pulled out my Caribbean, showed my attacker the handle...and started to move it in small circles. He became disoriented and staggered off. Really this is a great knife. The fit and finish are excellent the ergonomics are good, the traction package is good but the handle is oversized and wide. I love the action of the knife and the steel will hold a better edge and s30v, but it is rust proof. The handle color is horrible but after I dyed it dark green it was considerable better. I would try this one out in person to see if it is too wide for front pocket carry.
This has become my favorite Spyderco. Fit and finish are superb, and it's surprisingly light for a knife of this size. I live near the ocean, and this is my go-to beach knife. It does it and all, and the knife steel is amazing. Just rinse it off and you're good to go. Virtually rust-proof blade. Probably will buy another one.
I spend a lot of time out in salt water conditions. I've carried this blade with me for the past 6 months and I really love it. The compression lock makes disengaging the blade from open so easy. The G10 is nice and grippy, it doesn't feel like the knife is going to slip from my hand at all. The LC200N is a great steel. I've had no issues with rust and it keeps a great edge. I've cut through heavy duty zip ties, marine mooring lines and then a bagel or two without an issues.
