The Chaparral is one of Spyderco’s thinnest, lightest mid-sized CLIPIT folders. This debut Chaparral has a carbon fiber handle with a mid-positioned back lock and screw-together construction. Attached to the ultra-slim handle is a reversible tip-up carry pocket clip that conveniently arranges the knife deeply inside a pocket. CTS-XHP powdered stainless steel blade is flat ground and plain edged for the best available cutting performance with non-skid jimping located at both the spine and choil.
A Chaparral is a shrub native to the Western United States with the unique ability to perennially survive, revive and regenerate after being destroyed by drought. It’s also what Spyderco calls their new and continuing series of gentlemen’s folders. Mid-sized Chaparral folders will have identical blade and handle profiles but showcase variant handle materials. Handle options will be chosen for their elegant appearance and functional utility with a focus directed at making the Chaparral series unique as well as a serious contender in the gent’s knife genre.
The is the best knife I own for several reasons. Firstly, the materials are top. This isn't fake carbon fiber. This is real, tactile carbon fiber. It feels and looks great. It isn't just a laminate fake carbon fiber paste thing that so many knife makers do now, including Spyderco. The blade is super sharp from the factory and is super thin by design. You'll never in your life encounter any factory blade that slices through the material as astoundingly easily as this one does. Honestly, this knife is so amazing, I don't even want to use it. It is so far above cardboard, paper, tape, any packing materials. It'll handle it amazingly. But if you're not careful, this knife is so nice you might never want to use it for fear of making it look less than perfect.
My wife was looking for a light carry that would work in scrubs without drawing attention. This one is perfect for her and she carries it every day (replaced her old baby boa). She can easily open it one handed. My hands are large and it's too small for me to open one handed. I actually sliced myself pretty deep trying. I stick to bigger knives for my own safety so keep that in mind if you're a bigger dude looking for a fast opener.
Love the knife so far, the thin lock bar can be a little bit of a pain but other than that it's an amazing knife. Great first Taichung Spyderco!
Ordered this back in June and have not had one ounce of regret. Incredibly thin and light weight. Of all the knives I own, this is by far the best slicer. Beautiful carbon fiber that has a bit of texture, and the overall fit and finish is superb! First Spyderco I've owned, and defiantly won't be my last.
The blade on mine is marked CPM S30V. Other side: Taichung Taiwan.
The Syderco CF Chaparral is a great EDC knife, a great gentlemen’s knife, and a pleasure to carry. I own a number of knives and this is my go to EDC knife while wearing slacks or a suit. It is very light and super thin for a knife that locks up this solid. The CF version plays well with others in an office environment too. It has a refined look that does not startle non-knife people if they see it. With its thin profile, light weight, and black wire pocket clip few ever notice it unless it is in use. Excellent knife; you get what you pay for.
Picked this knife up a year ago to start a gentleman's carry collection. Its one of the greats for that purpose. Stylish and not as threatening as my ZT 0452. This lil guy can slice like nobody's business. Its a thin knife with an awesome finger choil. As such you can really get some cutting in with this guy. When you first get it, I recommend you chamfer the spydie hole with a Dremel tool. The spydie hole was sharp and I mean it would take off skin sharp. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with the Spyderco Chapparal.
Wanting to do a quick run down of this wonderful, little EDC. Forget the reviews you may have read/watched related to gritty actions and sharp edges. The tolerances are really tight on these, but they wear in beautifully. If you do get one with an action that is a bit gritty - give it a little time and put a drop or two of oil on the blade/lock interface and you will be good to go. My CF version came wonderfully smooth however! These are awesome little EDC's that will do just about anything you need it to! Pop the clip off, toss it in your pocket and you are good to go. A wonderfully efficient little package and woefully underrated in my opinion. A real delight! Of course, I would be remiss without acknowledging BHQ's outstanding service which I believe to be second to none!
I really wanted to like this knife, it carried like a dream, locked up strong, sliced better than any blade I've ever owned but i couldn't get past the faux carbon fiber. A knife at this price point should never cheap out like this. Just a heads up a bunch of spydercos do this and I wish they would stop.
