Description

Description

This Spyderco D'Allara 3 maintains the spirit of the original model with updated style and construction for multi-purpose use. It has a flat ground blade made from CPM-S30V steel and a black G-10 handle.

The Spyderco D'Allara was designed to honor John D'Allara, a NYC police officer and Spyderco enthusiast who died in the line of duty on 9/11. This updated D'Allara 3 model is equipped with a utilitarian drop point blade and a G-10 handle with skeletonized full stainless steel liners. Spyderco's Patened Ball Bearing lock provides reliable blade lock up and comfortable ambidextrous operation. A reversible deep pocket wire clip completes the versatile design.

The knife is beautiful...I love different lock mechanisms. It is not a real user friendly lock at all but the weight and feel of the knife is excellent. The Pocket clip is not one of the choices I would put on a knife. The wire clips usually end up getting snagged and bent very easily. Overall quality is great. It is a Spyderco.

I love the Axis lock so wanted to check out Spyderco's take on it. Not good would be an understatement. So stiff it is ridiculous. The thing is impossible to close without effort and concentration. The ball is smooth which makes it even more difficult to operate. Maybe it will break in but it is really so bad I do not know if it is worth the effort. $20 Chinese knives have much better Axis type locks.

Mine also had some QC issues. The blade some discolorations which would not buff out. The lock's ball also had some black streaks that look like machine marks that would not buff out. Finally, there is some shredded G10 inside the knife where one of the screws may have been over-tightened. All minor but irritating problems that I have never seen even on Spyderco's value line. Considering doing a return on this one.

It is a shame about the lock and cosmetic blemishes because otherwise, it is a very nice knife. Flies open easily, feels great in the hand and love the blade profile. That lock though!

I love everything about using this knife except trying to fold it away. The blade shape is fantastic. I can get the tip into tight spaces and placing the index finger along the spine gives great control. It slices and cuts like a dream and I love S30V. The Spidey hole is easy and solid to deploy the blade. It's thin enough to not bulge in the pocket and the wire clip is a bit more discrete than some other options. But I have relegated this knife to the truck console because it's just so hard to close with the ball. It works, and you can do it, but it is far from easy. When I'm using a knife, I open/close it a bunch, so this was a big downer for me. If you don't mind the difficulty closing, this is a great knife.
Underrated!

If you can get over the initial frustration of using the ball lock (it does break in over time), this turns out to be an almost perfect combination of weight, blade length, and steel for practically any cutting task where a folder is appropriate.

What I really like about this D'Allara 3 is you don't have to worry about this blade closing anytime no matter how hard your using it. It has a patented ball bearing lock that keeps the blade locked up no matter what.

This is my first Spyderco, and I have to say that the quality is evident from the first unboxing. It looks wonderful and the action is smooth. Razor sharp is one phrase that I would use for the blade, but unfortunately it is a descriptor for the handle as well. The liners, as well as the spydy hole are not chamfered and feel very sharp. Also the locking mechanism is difficult to use. The knife looks great though and feels even stronger.
