Puts the Every Day back into Every Day Carry

As someone who works in an office all day long, a smaller knife is what gets carried every day. This is the perfect size for every day carry and has replaced my Chaparral Lightweight (CL) as my most carried knife.

I still like the CL as the true gentleman's knife. It is lighter, thinner and the FRN is less abrasive, but as a knife guy, the LilNative is just more fun.
The compression lock makes this knife easy to open and close one handed. I admit, it's more about liking to open and close it than any practicality.

I don't use the pocket clip (I took it off and put it back in the box). because it fits so well in the pocket, However I abandoned the clip faster than usual because the G10 scales would rip up pant's really quickly. I would love to see the section of handle under the clip smoothed out some.

If you carry a larger knife, you probably don't need this one, but it's such a practical carry for those of us who don't work someplace where a knife hanging out of your pocket is appropriate.

When summertime (and thinner pants) come along, I might switch back to the CL, but for now the Lil Native is my EDC.

A few years ago, I decided to downsize my everyday carry knife. A larger blade can take up more pocket space than needed and, when traveling, might not be viewed as legal by local law enforcement. Properly executed, a smaller knife can handle any task most people might encounter on a given day.

The Lil Native is very impressive. More a mini-Shaman in my opinion, Spyderco has given us the most knife possible in the smallest package. More comfortable in the hand than the comparably sized Dragonfly and incredibly strong thanks to the compression lock and blade flat ground from properly thick stock. My medium sized hands have no trouble deploying the blade and closing it one handed.

Right out of the box, it sliced paper with ease. Grind lines were flawless and every part of the fit and finish were as good as one could wish for. Much is said about the quality of Spydercoís Taichung factory knives but my Lil Native was easily as well done. Made in America still means something but only when the product is worth buying. This was money well spent.

It's generally a nice knife. I was looking for something that wouldn't raise eye brows, as I work in an office and wanted an EDC.

I have yet to get used to the compression lock being on the back of the knife, I think it would better in the front.

NOt as sharp out of the box as I thought it would have been.

Bought this looking for something smaller to carry in the pocket. The size is compact but you still get a lot of blade. The ergonomics are shockingly good for a knife this small. The compression lock is maybe the best locking system out there. Extremely pleased - now, Spyderco, just put out some sprint runs for this model!

This is my first compression lock knife and I definitely prefer it over the lockback, like on my Spyderco Dragonfly 2, as it's easier to open/close with one hand. This is a very lightweight, sharp knife that comes in a perfect EDC size with a G10 grip. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for an unintimidating, well made pocket knife.

Great size for carrying, and the deep pocket wire clip is one of my all time favorites. The s30v blade holds a good edge and the shape is useful for most edc cutting tasks. Obviously the compression lock is a huge plus and one of the best locking systems on the market. The action is good out of the box and gets better over time.

The best part about this knife in my opinion is that the finger choil allows this knife to have great ergonomics in a large hand, but it folds down to a knife that would otherwise be too small. So you have the carryability of a small knife and the comfort of a large knife all in one with a blade just the right size for anything youíre going to need.

I only have two problems with this knife. The first is that the tip of the finger choil folds into the cutout for the compression lock. When you unlock the knife and swing it closed, more often than not, it will bounce off your finger and not close all the way. This isnít that big of a problem but, the knife would be so much better if it was reshaped just enough to get the choil out of the compression lock cutout. The only other problem with the lilí native for me was that the blade stock was a little thick for such a short blade. I think if it was thinner, it would go through cardboard much better and improve the cutting performance overall without risking the integrity of the Blade (since itís so short).

In conclusion: I definitely recommend this knife. I carry it most days because itís such a convenient size and it does what I need it to do. If spyderco fixed the few problems I had and doubled the price, Iíd buy another in a heartbeat.

This is pretty much my perfect EDC. What's so great about it?

1. The blade. Perfect for real world, everyday tasks like cutting through packaging. A nice flat grind with premium steel.
2. Jimping and choil are perfectly placed. You can choke up on the blade for more control and finer movements.
3. Weight and size. Throw it in your pocket and forget about it. Doesn't get in the way of anything.
4. G-10 handle secures it in your hand.

Once I can justify it, I'd love to get my hands on the larger Native to complete my set.

The only thing I don't like about this is the name. When I tell people the name, half the time I get grimaces and "oohs" (not in the good way).

Great size for carrying EDC. Still plenty of blade. Easy to open in various ways, easy to disassemble for cleaning, and just a joy to carry and use. Only drawback, as others have noticed, is that when closing one-handed, back of the blade (the dull part, of course) hits the finger, so it stops it from closing. Not a big deal - it just means you have to move your finger and push the blade all the way in. Still easy to open and close one-handed.

I go almost everywhere with the PM2 clipped inside my pocket, and I think I got spoiled to how perfectly one-handed that knife is.

For me at 6'1", the Lil' Native feels small in my hand, but its smallness isn't irksome, in part because the width in the handle gives a bit of extra real estate to worth with, especially on a thumb slide open. It will finger flick, but with some adjustments to grip that I doubt I'll practice enough to master.

As others pointed out, the choil (and I had to look that term up) definitely protrudes into the cut out where you pinch down onto the compression lock. If your finger tip uses all of the space offered by that cut out, the choil will bounce against your finger tip and the knife will not be closed completely when you release pressure.

I'd make a funny comment about first world problems, and that would be quite true... but it's also true that this isn't an inexpensive knife.

It's a superb knife, all around, with at least one design issue that prevents it from being something amazing. It's going to replace my Dragonfly as my bottom-of-the-pocket carry in situations where I don't want to bring my PM2, and the Dragonfly will now be relegated to garbage night box destruction -- a job to which it's perfectly suited, I might add.

I love it! I got it for my Birthday this August and it is a great secondary edc. It is usually carried with a lionsteel KUR or lionsteel SR11 as of late. Its pretty much my everything knife cardboard, plastic, tape ect.. Its a great little knife for everyday tasks and especially when your wearing gym shorts or just don't feel like wearing a belt. And on top of that it uses the compression lock which is great for protecting your fingers when you close the knife itself because your fingers aren't in the path of the blade itself.

Smooth one-handed opening and closing just like a PM2. Fits perfectly inside a fifth pocket if you want to carry it discretely. As some have noticed, the end of the choil can bump into your finger as you're closing it, but it's not as annoying as I thought it would be, especially if you operate the lock with just the very tip of your finger/fingernail. It is a small knife, but it has a nice robust blade that can handle most of the duties that a PM2 or Para 3 could.

This is the first pocket knife I have ever lost- itís pocket clip came pretty ďlooseĒ out of the box, as in, the pocket clip did not grab my pocket tight enough, and now my Lil Native is somewhere in the Utah mountains.

I only had it a month or two, but I could not believe how much I loved it- it is a super small knife, but the way the handle is shaped, it fits my hand extremely well- and I have long fingers-
I plan to buy another one to replace my lost one- I just hope the wire clip is stronger this time around.
