TOPS Knives BOB Fieldcraft Knife Gray Micarta (4.625" Gray)

This model of the TOPS Knives BOB Fieldcraft fixed blade sports gray micarta scales and a gray finished 154CM blade. It includes a Kydex sheath and a firestarter set.

The Fieldcraft Knife was designed by The Brothers of Bushcraft, a coalition of men across North America focusing on sharing wilderness living skills of all categories. From tracking, to building shelters, the Brothers of Bushcraft make it a point to show the skills to all people, of all ages, from all over.

The knife is ten inches long in total, with a blade length of four and a half inches. This makes a compact, but extremely serviceable knife. The Fieldcraft's blade is 3/16" thick, and made of 154CM stainless steel. The cutting edge is a modified Scandinavian Grind, which is very effective for carving, skinning and other general woods work. With a rockwell hardness of 56-58, the ease of sharpening is astounding. That is if you ever get to sharpen the blade. As the hardness and edge geometry work beautifully together to make a long lasting edge.

The handle is one of the most ergonomic ones on the market, sporting several useful additions. Although knives with a lot of frills often end up lacking, the additional items found on the Fieldcraft knife were selected from experience and critiqued in every step of design, development and production. Being made of G-10, the handle will never let you down. The bow drill divot on the handle is frictionless and makes starting those primitive fires almost effortless. The "Thumb Scallops", formed on the hilt of the handle offer more comfort and control when using specialized carving and skinning grips. The pommel of the blade is simply the tang of the knife exposed enough to allow impact from a baton to not effect the handle (though the G10 is definitely tough enough to take such abuse). On the exposed pommel, you will find a scraper specially designed by one of The Brothers of Bushcraft, for striking Ferro rods in a safe and efficient manner.

TOPS B.O.B. finally in154CM
Patrick A. on Jan 10, 2017

Most everyone familiar with the TOPS Brothers Of Bushcraft Fieldcraft in 1095 knows how popular that knife is. Now its available in 154CM stainless. This is great for an easy to maintain knife and good corrosion resistance. It also looks fantastic. The blade is tumbled which gives it more of a grey matte finish on the flats. The model I got has the black micarta scales (which really look grey) and its a gorgeous knife as well as being functional. I prefer the micarta over the G-10 for this knife. Also keep in mind that on this knife the G-10 is a bit thinner than the micarta. The sheath is solid and well built. The spring belt clip is useful but I wish they had made it a dangler or give you the ability to remove the clip. But its a fantastic sheath. I also removed the included fire starter rod and replaced it with an "Exotac fireROD" with some shock cord. I ordered the leather sheath and wet molded it to my knife and it fits like a glove. I use an "Exotac nanoSTRIKER XL" with shock cord on the leather sheath. The shango notch is a point of debate. I have seen a good way of using it but I would use the spine of the BOB near the tip to get sparks if I really had to. The jimping on this one is perfect. It doesn't feel as aggressive as it did on the 1095 coated blade which I found odd since the 1095 is coated. Everything is perfectly done and this is my new companion. Absolutely love this knife. Thanks again BHQ!

Marketing gimmick

I really wanted to like this knife infact I ordered two I was so excited about it. Unfortunately I am really disappointed and have already returned one. The other one I tried to modify it to work and now I can not return it. The biggest reason I am disappointed is the inability to throw sparks with a ferro rod. The little thing on the end of the knife is a complete joke and was rounded to the point were it could not scrape off any real sparks on 3 different kinds of ferro rods I own. The spine of the knife is so rounded it doesn't work at all. On the knife I modified I filed down the spine to make it 90° it does much better but still a disappointment. The divot for the bow drill makes it kind of unstable because it is off center of the handle and makes it awkward to use. The thumb gruve for the chest pull method of cutting is okay but not necessarily and the part on the end that sticks out of the handle kept digging into my chest making it uncomfortable to cut using that method. The kydex sheath is good but the ferro rod is a joke being so small and the emergency whistle is no good it is a very quite whistle. When it comes to making feather sticks my mora knive cuts better, it throws sparks better and can do just about everything this knife does for 1/3 the cost. Dont fall for the marketing andsave your money and get a different knife.
