The Prather War Bowie from TOPS Knives is Jeff’s ideal blade design based on his twenty five years of real world experience both here and abroad. The knife features a classic sweep and forward balance point to naturally facilitate cutting and chopping. The unique dropped blade forms an integral safety guard that makes it impossible for the operator’s fingers to accidentally slide forward and be cut while stabbing with forward or reverse grips. Thumb grooves on the spine add extra control for fine cuts. A sharpening groove at the base of the edge eases sharpening in the field. The Prather War Bowie’s false edge delivers superior penetration when thrusting. TOPS Knives’ patented micarta Rocky Mountain tread grip slab handles offers the ideal combat hold. The War Bowie was designed by former 7th Special Forces, DEA Special Agent, DIA Intelligence Officer, and Bujinkan martial arts master Jeff Prather. Jeff also founded Warriorschool, a tactical training academy that specializes in preparing discreet government agencies and specialized military units for hostile overseas environments.
Sometimes, the simplest designs are the best and while this is no elaborate, ornamental Natchez Bowie, the Prather War Bowie is a devastatingly effective tool. The 1/4" thick blade is easy to use for chopping and splitting wood and the swedge doesn't really chew up batoning sticks as much as I thought it would. The grip is true and works extremely well especially closer to the back end. The upsweep is sometimes interesting to sharpen, especially near the tip, but it's a great learning experience. This is a perfect outdoors knife that can easily turn into a devastating self-defense tool if you know what you're doing. 5 stars. Another great product from TOPS and a great design by Jeff Prather.
It took me awhile to pull the trigger on this bowie because of the nylon sheath. but im glad I did, Ill be getting a custom sheath, the blade itself is exactly what a bowie should feel like in hand. That coffin shaped handle makin the bowie great again. I have a bowie knife addiction and this blade more than scratched the itch.
