The Silent Hero is an Anton Du Plessis designed fixed blade that is very versatile, making it an ideal knife for bushcraft, survival, and tactical purposes. It's not so large that it can only be used to chop, but is also sized to complete smaller tasks.
Built in TOPS Knives fashion, the Silent Hero has a 1095 steel blade with a "black river wash" finish, which has a darkened finish along the edge where the blade has been heat treated. The handle is fitted with smooth linen Micarta scales for an uncompromising all-weather grip. Two lanyard holes, one in the handle along with another in the finger guard, give the user the option to add a safety cord or for lashing to a spear when the situation warrants it. The black leather sheath is durable and looks great paired with this knife. The Silent Hero is held in place with a single snap loop that curls around the finger guard.
The Silent Hero was designed by Anton Du Plessis, who is the Chief of Operations for the Specialized Interdiction Unit of the Silent Heroes Foundation. His task is to combat the poaching crisis in South Africa. This knife has to be durable, versatile, and able to fill Anton’s needs in the field, which affected the design of the blade and the handle. It will definitely hold up to hard use. It is the intention at TOPS to ensure that a portion of all sales of this knife are used to help the Silent Heroes Foundation in their endeavors.
INFORMATION FROM TOPS KNIVES
This knife really is a great example of a survival knife in that it had tactical capabilities but could definitely hold its own in the woods. the only downside to this blade is that 1095 isn't very corrosion resistant. However, if you keep the blade oiled and keep up with in, it'll be fine.
I bought this as a birthday gift for my foreman. It’s a well balanced knife that is comfortable in larger hands. Actually, it could be a great knife if not for one issue. It sat in the garage for one week when first received, having still never been used, and began to rust. As an owner of the brand prior to this particular knife, I expected the same quality and durability, yet I was greatly disappointed. He still loves the other aspects of the knife, but at this price point, I don’t think a knife should begin to rust in just one week, having had no use whatsoever.
