The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 is a second-generation knife that has undergone some stellar improvements thanks to the C.Q.I.-Constant Quality Improvement process employed by Spyderco. The Dragonfly 2 maintains the same blade and handle geometry with leveraging points that make the Dragonfly cut and feel like a much larger knife.
The Dragonfly 2 features a premium K390 blade with a full flat grind and now has jimping at the choil and the spine for better control and feel. The handle on the second generation Dragonfly uses Spyderco's patented Bi-Directional Texturing on the dark blue fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN) and has a reversible tip-up wire clip for superb carry characteristics. The Back Lock steel frame ensures a tight lock with solid performance.
I live in an area where lots of cities have a 2.5" blade length restriction, so I needed a knife I could throw in my pocket and not worry about being hassled over it, more importantly, I needed that knife to actually be a very functional tool that did knifey things. I've been eyeing the Dragonfly for years and finally decided to pull the trigger once I noticed it was now in k390. For a very small knife, it performs amazingly, everything from the blade shape, the edge geometry and the handle shape squeezes maximum performance out of minimum size, the k390 steel is just icing on the top, and makes that small edge last and last. As usual, Spyderco nailed the heat treatment on this. Diamonds are obviously a must considering the 9% Vanadium but it sharpens up very easily and takes an extremely fine edge, even when stropping up to 200,000 grit, the edge still bites and does not glass over.
I have many Spyderco's and this model is one of my favorites for discreet EDC. Honestly most of the time I never need more blade than this and the handle is so ergonomic. Came very sharp out of the box and the grind lines were excellent. I broke down some cardboard boxes and it was a lightsaber. Very interested in how the steel performs over time, so far hasn't needed any touch up. Really a Dragonfly is almost the perfect intro to Spyderco's and you just can't go wrong with them.
